I must come clean. I couldn't motivate myself to do Yoga today. I can't seem to get myself into the right mindset for this video. So about 8pm I put my son to bed and I have the brilliant idea to do cardio x. Great workout, got my heartrate up and felt good. I then did another 20minutes on the treadmill. Soaked with sweat and ready for a shower but it felt great. Not sure this will happen everytime but until I lose more weight and can start really performing on the Yoga video, I almost feel like it is a waste. The most I honestly think I get out of it is in my legs from all the lunges.
So again, cardio x was great however, Tony Horton and the P90x system still managed to laugh at me as the first 10-15 minutes of the workout was... you guess it, yoga x moves.
There is nothing like stretching your sore arms and feeling muscles in your triceps bulging that weren't there one month ago to get your testosterone flowing. I still have a long ways to go, but never hurts to feel a little cocky every now and then lol.
Finally, can't get my old copy of photoshop to work on Vista. Anyone know of any free programs out there that I can use to blur my face on my photos? Tried a few that let your crop and add text but can't find a free one that will let me place two photos side by side into one and blur face.

Another new video on phase two. I love the resistance training to begin with and add in the new DVD and this went by fast. I didn't sweat nearly as much as usual but man did I struggle with some of the curls. This video has a lot of curls. I also like the change of pace in this phase. The two arm videos don't repeat exercises. Just a lot of different ones but one time each. Biceps are burnt today and I'm loving it. Yoga again tonight. I might again do the first 45 minutes and then run on the treadmill. Again, the second half of Yoga involves a lot of balancing and positions that are tough or not possible for me. For example, crane is a while away from doing.
On a side note, my wife did Ab Ripper X on Monday with me and last night as well. Always nicer working with someone else. She kicked my butt on all the exercises. Her comment though was "This is like my pilates Ab DVD but instead of 5 reps you do 25" lol.
Ahh, finally back to resistance. Love the feeling of barely being able to lift my arms above my ahead for the cooldown. I still have to get better on the diet. To clarify, I'm keeping it around 1800-2000 calories but eating more carbs than I should. I find it pretty easy to avoid the bad fats but carbs are more difficult. I was losing weight faster at 1500 calories a day and cardio 3 times a week. I upped my calories because of the P90x program. I might have to shave some of those off to get some lbs going again.
Today is Day 30, I will finish my workout tonight and have my wife take my 30 day pics. I tend to be embarassed about my size, so more than likely I blur the face out, but I do plan on posting pics here. I'm very nervous that it won't show much but I have definately lost inches so we'll see.
I have a small group of people I communicate with on a message board. We all started on June 29th with P90x. A recent comment from made me stop and think. To summarize, like many of us, a couple missed workouts and a couple bad eating days leads one to doubt.
I can be the same way. It can be hard to get back on track. I ate out twice this week and missed both days of X stretch. However, I managed to also get two 30 minute sessions on the treadmill. I gained 0.2 lbs this week. Had I really focused on diet and not doing the dvd's out of order I probably would have lost some weight.
Here's how I look at it for myself. I have a lot of weight to lose and it is going to take some time. One round of P90x isn't going to solve my problems. I can't think of 90 days in a row any time of year that I would be able to completely devote to P90x. That being said, get back on track. Push Play and keep going. So you missed a few workouts. The question is do you want to miss a lot or just a few. I went' from no excercise to 6.5 hours a week with Yoga. So I'm not going to think less of myself if I manage only 3 hours one week. Not my goal and so far I have done them all (except X stretch), but getting in the right frame of mind is key.
I managed to fit in all the workouts except the stretching video. I also ran a couple times on the treadmill. My diet was bad on a few days but still nothing like what I would eat a few months ago. Felt like I did bad this week but can't wait until tomorrows resistance training. I weigh myself daily and it has ranged from down a couple pounds to up a couple pounds. I officialy weight myself tomorrow and won't be suprised to be up. Still averaging 3lbs a week though.
I love this workout. Definately started losing form on kicks near the end but felt the burn. I still could be doing better on the diet but nothing like before. Still staying around 1800 calories a day and trying to get as much protein as possible. Unfortunately, I'm not a fish person and chicken/turkey are getting old. Need to figure something else out. Any ideas?
Ok, first of all, back on track. Core Synergistics kicked my butt. I definately focused and kept it in the core but I was panting like the first time I did plyo. Not sure why, probably the lack of sleep last night, but it definately felt good to get through another video.
On a side note, I had an EMG done today for some numbness in my right thigh. This was a new one for me. For those of you that haven't had one, heres what it is. They hook electrodes up to your feet and different parts of your leg. They then jolt you with current lol. Starting small and going up to leg inducing spasms. After that, they stick needles into your muscles in several different locations to "listen" to your muscle. Part of me thinks that is made up and just sadistic. Results were sent off to my doctor but neurologist pretty much said the same thing my doctor thought. I have a slight pinched nerve that is not affecting mobility. Trouble started six weeks ago in relation to me getting up off that couch and working out.
Solution - Tough it out and lose some weight. Sounds like a plan
So I started the day excited about trying a new workout tonight. Unfortunately, life once again got in the way. I knew in the beginning it would happen on occasion, but still feel like I'm cheating. So I'm open to comments but I have X-Stretch twice during this recovery week, so I think I will skip one and continue on. After family and late night work related IT problems, I had about 4 hours sleep. I feel dead today and am going to really have to motivate myself tonight.
In case I haven't stressed it enough, I really don't like the yoga dvd. The first 45 minutes is great, and then it's all poses that I for the most part can't get into yet. So last night I did the first 45 minutes and then ran on the treadmill. I ran the entire time and poured sweat. I felt good about this little change so we'll see what happens next time yoga comes up this week.
Three weeks down and ten to go. I lost 7lbs this week and the inches are still coming off slowly. Even after three weeks of workouts, my legs still are sore from the Legs and Back dvd. I could have eaten better this weekend but I didn't really go overboard.
Not looking forward to Yoga twice this week and I'm really going to miss the arm workouts this week. Should be interesting what happens with pounds and inches this week since it is mostly cardio.
Stats:
Highest Weight 5/18/2009 - 386lbs
Start of P90x 6/29/2009 - 357lbs
Current Weight 7/19/2009 - 347lbs
Just finished up Legs and Back/Ab Ripper X. Wow, definately tough to make up a workout and do two a day. Legs feel like jello. I still feel like I should be doing more cardio to lose weight, but I'm sticking with this because so far I seem to be shedding weight.
Keep it up everyone!!
So, I worked late on Friday and the wife wanted me to meet her and the kids at Olive Garden. I ate salad, chicken scampi and desert. Got home after 10pm and still had to put kids to bed. It was not a workout day for me.
This morning my kids got me up at 7am. I fed them breakfast and did Kenpo X. I will do Legs tonight. Couldn't do them in order because bands, weights, etc are in bedroom where wife was sleeping in.
So all in all, I had one cheat meal and back to business. Didn't wake up and feel like I blew everything and head up to McDonalds. I have lost some weight, inches and feel great. I can't seem to see it in the mirror but still looking forward to Day 30 pics.
So I spent some time changing the look of this site. Hopefully, I will get my first comment before I have completed phase one. I know daily posts on workouts are boring, tell me what you want to know about P90x, me, weight loss, whatever
I absolutely hate and love this workout. Let me explain. I dreaded all day. It goes by so slowely compared to the other DVD's, however I feel so stretched and loose afterwards. Still can't jump into runner's pose from plank move but fell out of it and got up into runner's pose. Even this morning, I feel a lot of the soreness from previous workouts gone.
Diet has been going exceptionally well. Had to run out for diapers at 10:00pm last night, which used to be my normal 32oz Coke and snack run. Wife calls me while I'm there to say she wants a coke. Talk about testing me lol. Ended up taking one drink of her coke, which was the first drink of pop I've had in a week.
Weight is really coming off this week, I'm sure a lot to do with the diet but we'll see what Monday's weigh in brings.
I love the arm workouts. They go fast and you feel so pumped afterwards. For the first time I even showed my wife the hint of definition appearing (lol). I will say that it has been tough to get started the past few days. I can't quite figure it out. Could it be the complete rest day I took Sunday? Or my wife being out of town until late last night? Whatever it is, it was definately easier the first two weeks.
On a side note, the scale has been very friendly to me this week. I "officially" weigh in on Monday mornings when I wake up, but I weigh myself daily and am looking forward to Monday.
With my wife and daughter out of town, I wasn't able to get my kid to bed until 9:00pm tonight. I was on my feet moving all day at work and was yawning like crazy, but I "pushed play" and fought through it. Felt like I kept up better last week, but still had my heart rate up for a good cardio.
Anyone out there that works out at night? I can't seem to get to it until about 7-9 pm. At midnight I'm laying in bed wide awake since I started working out. I have to figure out how to sleep so I can get the best out of my workouts.
I love this workout. I am able to do every move to muscle failure and there is something masochist but pleasurable in that. I could barely lift my arms after the workout. I push it to the max on all workouts but nothing like falling on your face struggling for that last pushup.
Week 2 is in the books and definately feel more energetic. Still sore but not nearly as much as the first week. I managed to lose 3.4 lbs this week. More importantly though, after two weeks I have lost a total of 9.5 inches. The skeptic in me wonders how I can lose so many inches and only 3.4 lbs, but I guess thats what replacing fat with muscle does. I have lost weight much faster before, but never felt like I had this much energy.
I find myself anxiously wanted to get to 4 weeks to see if the pictures show anything.
Really good workout today. The last couple days have been tough motivation wise, but forced myself to get to it and felt so much better after working out. It's amazing how you can feel so lethargic and feel so energetic after working out. I weigh myself on Monday mornings. Could be wrong but I think I have dropped a couple pounds.
Another great work out. After all the runner squats in Yoga, it really burns to turn around and do more squats the following day but I made it through.
Ended up eating 3 pieces of pizza though for dinner. But a pretty good week so far.
Really struggled last night with yoga. I quickly got to wear my arms were not allowing me to keep going back and forth to downward dog, plank etc. I picked up each move from runners pose and felt the burn for the first 45 minutes. I know stretching is good but I really struggled with last 45 minutes. I was doing it, just felt like I wasn't "bringing it".
I really want to do the plan as stated but after only two yoga days, the idea of switching in cardio x instead is enticing.
So first I want to state that I have only gotten about 4 hours sleep the last couple nights. I have to figure out how to get to bed and sleep or my body is going to revolt.
I killed the shoulder and arms workout. Felt ripped but didn't burn as much of a sweat as the first time around. Not sure because I definately "brought it". Ab ripper killed me. My form must have been off or something because I'm feeling tension in my neck during and after the whole thing.
Finished those two workouts and did a 30 minute 2 mile walk on the treadmill. Nothing gut busting but kept my heartrate up.
Now to find a way to sleep
Wow that felt good. Kept up a lot better than the first time. It fascinates me how quickly my body adapted to the breathing. Still adapted but able to go the entire time on almost everything.
I want to try and focus some thoughts on being a lot bigger than most people starting P90x. After just one week, these are the main adaptations to Plyo. Anything jumping with feet or knees in the air quickly turns into mainly jumping but still good cardio. Don't quite have the same pace as the video but went for all 30 sec or 60 sec of each move. Lastly, the hot foot move. I can stay up on one foot like that, I did the jump rope adapation for the entire minute.
As tough as this is, it is by far one of my favorite workouts. As weird as it sounds, a lot of the moves remind me of highschool and college sport workouts. I love the bonus round of shooting and pitching motion.
Well another day done. I love the resistance workouts. There is something satisfying about barely being able to lift your arms after a good workout. Need to try and find a substitute for decline pushups. I can do one on round one and zero on round two. Anyone out there have any ideas?
I keep thinking with the weight I need to lose I'm going to do some additional walking after the workouts. Can't seem to muster up that energy yet. Again, my right shoulder has been stiff lately but after warming up and getting started no pain.
Onto another day of Plyo tomorrow. That should be interesting.
So far so good. I managed to do all 6 workouts. I am sore but feeling good. I feel better. My belt is one notch tighter, but I gained 1lb. Trying to not let this get me down. Before I started P90X I was losing an average of 3lbs a week so it is a bit frustrating. I have read many reviews of people who didn't lose much weight in the first 30 days, but for some reason I assumed with my size I would lose something. Diet is the same with one added protein bar a day. I spent 3 days for 30 minutes on a treadmill walking to lose that weight, now I'm busting my butt for more than an hour a day. Like I said frustrating but going to keep going.
So I was out of town yesterday and this morning. Came back and did Kenpo X on day 7 instead of 6. I really like this workout. It was never boring. Seemed to go fast. Nothing super high impact but sweated buckets. So far so good.
Would love to hear from anyone reading my blog, feel free to leave some comments.
I got off work early Friday and managed to get legs and back in before leaving town. Felt good, muscles sore the next couple days. I also did ab ripper x again. Didn't do so hot on diet on Saturday. Back home and ready for Kenpo. I couldn't do it yesterday so switched my day 6 and rest day.
Yoga was very difficult. It's one and a half hours long and your muscles start burning pretty quickly. Again, with my size I had to adapt a few things but I am sore this morning. I've been sore everyday this week, but it feels like muscles I haven't used are sore today from Yoga X. First 45 minutes are sweat producing and painful. The second half is more stretching and stances. Still working the muscles but not as intense as the first half.
Haven't lost any weight but that will come.
I went and played 9 holes of golf after work today so didn't get to workout until 9pm last night. I had some pain for a month now in my right shoulder when golfing, last nights workout really seem to stretch it out. Muscles are sore today but feel good. I did a much better job of adapting the ab ripper x routine to my size. Most were crunches rather than situps but I actually still feel my stomach muscles aching today so obviously worked better than the first time I did it. For those that are really overweight like myself, this is how I adapted. Rather than 2 or 3 full setups and unable to go any more. I did 2 and then simply did the same motion but the rest were more crunches than situps. It burned however and I think thats what counts
Plyo was as tough if not tougher than what I read. I was only able to keep up for about 20-25 seconds and I'm sure my form was off. Example: I couldn't get my knees up to my hands on the jumping squats but damn did I try. Only two days in and feel exhausted. Thought I was working out before on the treadmill but that was nothing.
